On 27 November 2013, when Dubai won the right to host the 2020 World Expo, fireworks erupted at the world’s tallest building, Burj Khalifa. A national holiday was declared the following day for educational institutions across the country and His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, promised that Dubai would “astonish the world” in 2020.
Expo 2020 Dubai is guided by the belief that innovation and progress are the result of people and ideas combining in new ways, which explains the theme: ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’, with sub-themes:
For six months, Expo 2020 Dubai will host 25 million visitors from across the world and more than 200 nations, companies, multilateral organisations, NGOs and academic institutions.
