Ontario's Ellisdon to design, build, and operate the pavilion that is located within the World Expo's Sustainability District

Construction work has begun on Expo 2020 Dubai’s “The Future In Mind”-themed Canada Pavilion, with ground having broken on the wooden structure at the World Expo site.

Ontario-based construction heavyweight Ellisdon was picked to design, build, and operate the pavilion.

Yesterday, the groundbreaking ceremony for the Canada Pavilion was held at the Expo 2020 grounds in Dubai. As the selected contractor to design, build, and maintain, EllisDon has mobilized on-site and is set to begin construction on the national pavilion.

Other companies working associated with the pavilion include Moriyama & Teshima Architects, Lord Cultural Resources, Hatch, Kubik, Thornton Tomasetti, NGX, and Cisco.

Ground on the pavilion’s site, located within the Sustainability District, was broken by CSO and senior vice president for international services at Ellisdon, Jody Becker; interim commissioner general of Canada at Expo 2020 Dubai, Veronica Silva; executive director of Expo 2020 Dubai, Najeeb Mohammed Al Ali; and Canada’s Ambassador to the UAE, Marcy Grossman.

According to statement published on Ellisdon’s website, vice president for the Middle East at Ellisdon, Wissam Ayoub, said: “We are extremely excited to break ground on the Canadian Pavilion at Expo 2020 in Dubai."

Meanwhile, Becker said: "We are honoured to have been entrusted with this important project and look forward to delivering a pavilion of which all Canadians can be proud."
